What to expect

We look at the area you would like to treat, whether that is the face, the neck or around the eyes, and talk through what has been bothering you. We check that polynucleotides are a suitable option, explain what they can realistically do for your skin, and agree a plan with you first.

A numbing cream is usually applied first, then the treatment is given through a series of small, shallow injections across the area. Most people describe it as quick pinpricks rather than anything painful. The appointment takes around 75 minutes, including time to prepare the skin.

You may see small bumps or pinpoint marks at the injection sites, and these usually settle within a few hours to a day. Keep the area clean and make-up free for the rest of the day, and avoid saunas, steam rooms, heavy exercise and very hot showers for about 24 hours.

Polynucleotides work gradually by supporting the natural repair process in your skin, so any improvement builds over the weeks that follow rather than appearing straight away. It is normally given as a course, and we will review your skin between sessions. Results vary from person to person.

Yes, most people go straight back to their day. You may have small bumps at the injection points and occasionally a little bruising, which usually settles over a day or two. If you have an event coming up, it is worth booking with a few days to spare.
Keep the area clean and leave it alone for the rest of the day, including make-up where you can. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, heavy exercise and very hot showers for about 24 hours, and carry on with SPF as you normally would. We will go through all of this with you before you leave.
It is generally not carried out during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or where there is an active skin infection or breakout in the area. Polynucleotides are usually derived from purified fish DNA, so please tell us if you have a fish allergy. Suitability is always assessed at your consultation, and we will say so if we think another option would suit you better.
